The ‘Giant Monster Movies’ has created a different fan base in 70+ years of its run. So, in this post, the rankings of all movies which are a part of the Godzilla series will be based on audience reviews, critics ratings, and our personal views. Now, I would like to start the ranking of the movies from best to worst, or we can say from the most loved movie to the most trolled film!

1. Godzilla (1954)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and was released in 1954. The film stars Takashi Shimura, Akihiko Hirata, Akira Takarada, and Momoko Kochi in the lead cast. The story of the movie is based on a mighty and unstoppable dinosaur-like creature who gets created due to American nuclear weapons testing. The film has a runtime of 96 min and is the most appreciated movie of the Godzilla till now. It also received the highest critics rating of 7.6, and therefore it has taken the first place in our list.

2. Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)

This film was directed by Shusuke Kaneko and was released in 2001. This film stars Chiharu Niiyama, Ryudo Uzaki, Masahiro Kobayashi, and Shiro Sano in the lead role. The story of the film is based on three ancient guardian beast who are awakened to protect their country Japan from the dangerous creature Godzilla. The movie has a runtime of 105 min and was also part of one of the most liked films in the Godzilla series. This film received critics rating of 7.1 and hence is on the second rank in our list.

3. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)

This film was directed by Takao Okawara and Kazuki Ohmori and was released in 1993. This film stars Masahiro Takashima, Ryoko Sano, Megumi Odaka, and Daijiro Haradain, the lead role. The story of the film is based on the way the United Nations discovers a weapon, or we can say instrument to defeat Godzilla and scientist discovers a fresh egg on a remote Japan Island. The movie has a runtime of 105 min, and it was also a part of one of the most liked films in the Godzilla series. This film received critics rating of 6.6 and hence is on the third rank in our list.

4. Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and was released in 1964. This film stars Akira Takarada, Yuriko Hoshi, Hiroshi Koizumi, and Yu Fujiki in the lead role. This movie marked the first encounter of Godzilla with Mothra as the gigantic egg found on the ashore was claimed by the greedy business-minded persons who refused to return it to the real owner, Mothra. Therefore, Godzilla came in between because of the same typhoon to its rescue. The movie has a runtime of 89 min, and it was considered one of the best sequels of the Godzilla series and hence was loved by the audience.

5. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)

This film was directed by Takao Okawara, Ishiro Honda, Koji Hashimoto, Kazuki Ohmori, and Kensho Yamashita and was released in 1995. This film stars Takuro Tatsumi, Yoko Ishino, Yasufumi Hayashi, and Megumi Odaka in the lead cast. The movie has a runtime of 109 min, and it introduced one of the best characters of the Godzilla series and was loved by the audience.

6. Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and Jun Fukuda and was released in 1975. This film has Katsuhiko Sasaki, Tomoko Ai, Akihiko Hirata, and Katsumasa Uchida in the lead role. In this film, Godzilla comes to rescue when the aliens reestablished Mechagodzilla to destroy the entire earth, and one of the disloyal scientists gave them a new weapon, Titanosaurus, for more destruction. The movie has a runtime of 79 min only and was a little shorter as compared to the previous ones.

7. Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971)

This film was directed by Yoshimitsu Banno and was released in 1971. This film stars Akira Yamauchi, Toshie Kimura, Hiroyuki Kawase, and Toshio Shibain, the lead role. The story of this film revolves around Hedorah, the smog monster who is created from earth’s pollution and tries to destroys Japan has to fight Godzilla for that. The movie has a runtime of 85 min and is a movie which teaches some life lessons.

8. Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000)

This film was directed by Masaaki Tezuka and Ishiro Honda and was released in 2000. This film has Misato Tanaka, Shosuke Tanihara, Masato Ibu, and Yuriko Hoshi in the lead role. In this sequel Japan tries to create an artificial black hole device in order to capture Godzilla but the experiment gets backlashed and creates more enemies for Godzilla called Meganula and their queen is Megagurirus. The movie has a runtime of 105 min and is the most unique film from 1988.

9. Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965)

This sequel of the Godzilla series was directed by Ishiro Honda and was released in 1965. This film stars some new actors Nick Adams, Akira Takarada, Jun Tazaki, and Akira Kubo in the lead role The movie has a runtime of 93 min and was really loved by the audience because of a good image of Godzilla in the plot.

10. Destroy All Monsters (1968)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and Jun Fukuda and was released in 1965. This film stars Akira Kubo, Jun Tazaki, Yukiko Kobayashi and Yoshio Tsuchiya in the lead role. In the story, female aliens took control of all the monsters on earth and then commands and use them to destroy the entire earth. The movie has a runtime of 88 min.

11. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

This film was directed by Michael Dougherty and was released in 2019. The film stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, and Ken Watanabe in the lead cast. The story shows the zoological agency Head facing many monsters who fight with Mothra, Rodan, and the three-headed ruler Ghidorah. The film has a runtime of 132 min and is the most recently released movie of the series and was appreciated a lot.

12. Godzilla 2000 (1999)

This film was directed by Takao Okawaraand was released in 1999. The film has Takehiro Murata, Hiroshi Abe, Naomi Nishida, and Mayu Suzuki as the main actors. In the film, Godzilla protects Tokyo from a flying UFO that converts into a huge dangerous creature. The film has a runtime of 99 min.

13. Godzilla: Final Wars (2004)

This film was directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, Shusuke Kaneko, Kazuki Ohmori, Takao Okawara, Masaaki Tezuka, and Kensho Yamashitawas released in 2004. The film has Masahiro Matsuoka, Rei Kikukawa, Don Frye, and Maki Mizuno as the main actors. This movie marks the fiftieth anniversary of the series and Godzilla travels throughout the globe to fight and defeat his old enemies. The film has a runtime of 106 min and it received a good response from the critics as well as the audience.

14. Godzilla (2014)

This film was directed by Gareth Edwards and was released in 2014. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe in the lead cast. This movie shows Godzilla as the only creature who can save humanity. The film has a runtime of 123 min and it shows the world the real meaning of what a real beast film looks like.

15. Shin Godzilla (2016)

This film was directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi and was released in 2016. The film has Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara, and Ren Osugi as the lead cast. The film has a runtime of 120 min and it shows the revival of Japan from all the highly dangerous monsters.

16. King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and was released in 1962. The film has Tadao Takashima, Kenji Sahara, Yu Fujiki, and Ichiro Arishima in the lead cast. The film shows the escape of King Kong from the capture and then he fights against Godzilla. The film has a runtime of 91 min and it introduced King Kong.

17. Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992)

This film was directed by Takao Okawara and was released in 1992. This movie includes Tetsuya Bessho, Satomi Kobayashi, Takehiro Murata, and Saburo Shinoda as the lead actors. The film has a runtime of 100 min and was really appreciated by the audience because of the friendship shown in between the two.

18. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and was released in 1992. The film has Yosuke Natsuki, Yuriko Hoshi, Hiroshi Koizumi, and Akiko Wakabayashi in the lead roles in the film, a meteorite falls and creates a three-headed beast in Tokyo, Japan and Mothra tries to make a team with Godzilla and Rodan to protect the earth. The film has a runtime of 85 min and it introduced a new three-headed character.

19. Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

This film was directed by Ishiro Honda and Motoyoshi Oda and was released in 1955. This sequel has Hiroshi Koizumi, Setsuko Wakayama, Minoru Chiaki, and Takashi Shimura as the lead cast. In the story, Godzilla fights with Ankylosaur and destroys the entire Osaka in the battle. The film has a runtime of 78 min and this movie was the first sequel of the original movie and the only other black and white movie.

20. Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972)

This film was directed by Jun Fukuda, Yoshimitsu Banno, and Ishiro Honda and was released in 1972. This movie has Hiroshi Koizumi, Setsuko Wakayama, Minoru Chiaki and Takashi Shimura in the lead role. The film has a runtime of 89 min and was liked by the audience.

21. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974)

This film was directed by Jun Fukuda and was released in 1974. The film stars Masaaki Daimon, Kazuya Aoyama, Reiko Tajima, Akihiko Hirata in the lead cast. The story shows that Aliens who want to destroy earth builds a robotic Godzilla to destroy Tokyo and the robot is even more powerful than the original Godzilla which created many difficulties in order to defeat him. The film has a runtime of 84 min and it made the debut of Mechagodzilla, one of the interesting characters of the Godzilla series.

22. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)

This film was directed by Kazuki Ohmori and was released in 1991. The film stars Kosuke Toyohara, Anna Nakagawa, Megumi Odaka, and Katsuhiko Sasaki. In the story, time travelers use Godzilla in their plan to destroy Tokyo. He film has a runtime of 100 min and it made the debut of Mechagodzilla, one of the interesting characters of the Godzilla series.

23. Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)

This film was directed by Kazuki Ohmori, Koji Hashimoto, and was released in 1989. The film stars Kosuke Toyohara, Anna Nakagawa, Megumi Odaka, and Katsuhiko Sasaki. In the plot, it is shown that after rising from his volcanic grave, Godzilla gets dangered by a Rosebush. This film has a runtime of 104 min.

24. Son of Godzilla (1967)

This movie was directed by Jun Fukuda and was released in 1967. The film stars Tadao Takashima, Akira Kubo, Beverly Maeda, and Akihiko Hirata in the lead cast. The story of the movie is based on the experiments performed by scientists on changes in weather on a tropical island. This film has a runtime of 84 min.

25. Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002)

This movie was directed by Masaaki Tezuka and was released in 2002. The film stars Yumiko Shaku, Shin Takuma, Kana Onodera, Ko Takasugiin the lead cast. This film has a runtime of 88 min and was a little bit appreciated.

26. Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003)

This movie was directed by Masaaki Tezuka and was released in 2002. The film stars Noboru Kaneko, Miho Yoshioka, Mickey Koga, and Hiroshi Koizumi in the lead cast. In the story it was shown that after one year of the fight between Godzilla and Mechagodzilla, the two monsters did a battle with Mothra. This film has a runtime of 91 min and was a little bit appreciated.

27. Godzilla: The Planet Eater (2018)

This movie was directed by Hiroyuki Seshita and Kobun Shizuno and was released in 2018. The film has Mamoru Miyano, Takahiro Sakurai, Kana Hanazawa, and Tomokazu Sugita as the main actor. The plot of the movie depicted that humanity, alien allies, and Godzilla all enters the end game because their most powerful and dangerous enemy comes on the earth. This film has a runtime of 91 minutes and was not liked by the audience like its previous sequels. The film was trolled badly for its poor storyline.
